Video Film Web is a vendor for the NYC DOE (New York City Department of Education) and produced a documentary for the High School of Violin And Dance. Excerpts from this documentary entitled “HSVD Rocks” recently premiered at the annual Platinum PIAs Tribeca Screening. As HSVD former principal Tanya Johns puts it: “There’s no mistaking of where we are and of our population. We are in the South Bronx – we are the poorest congressional district in the United States…period. And our kids, they deserve to have, the same type of experiences and exposures that a normal U.S. citizen would have.” The students were participants in the making of the documentary. On their own they filmed all the video footage documenting their school that was then edited together into a film that conveys the unique learning systems that HSVD is using for educational student empowerment and success. As mentioned, a clip from this film was first seen in a public screening at Robert De Niro’s Tribecca Screening Room in conjunction with the Platinum Pias Awards for which it won an award.
